Bullhorn #1 To better get the word out to membership, we are adding to our communications. 1. WINGS OF GOLD will continue to be our Flagship publication. 2. Our President will continue to publish a monthly email HOWGOZIT that provides vital information on the status of ANA, our current activities and important Navy issues, especially those concerning Naval Aviation. 3. The BULLHORN (this being the first of that series) will provide additional information of interest to our squadrons and membership-at-large and will be published on an as-needed basis. 4. When necessary, emergency bulletins will be published by email to alert squadrons and membership-at-large of issues worthy of immediate attention. WINGS OF GOLD CORRECTION From The Editor Wings of Gold deeply regrets the error that appeared on page 60 of the Spring 2007 issue in which we printed duplicate lists of deceased and new members as if they were the same. In fact, both lists were New Members. The list of Deceased Members (In Memoriam) which should have appeared in that issue is provided immediately below, along with the list of New Members. No excuses for this error. Editor IN MEMORIAM Mr. Cliff Haines NEW MEMBERS LT William J. Berryman, USN WINGS OF GOLD The SPRING issue of WINGS OF GOLD was mailed from our publisher in Pontiac, Illinois on 2 April. However, we have received word delivery of that issue seems to have been delayed; some members are just now receiving their issues while others still watch their mailboxes. Please be assured we are investigating to, first be sure everyone gets their copy and, also, to prevent delays of future issues. ANA AT TAILHOOK ?? We are trying to determine if there might be any interest in having a small/short ANA get-together/meeting at the next TAILHOOK convention, 6 – 9 SEP in Reno, NV. The possibilities range from a half-day meeting to an evening no-host reception, to whatever better idea someone might have. Should the venue be a separate meeting, we will need to reserve a place for the event; advance notice and planning and some expense will be required. If you are interested, please let our Executive Director, Zip Rausa know soon by email to goldwings@cox.net or snail mail to 2133 Freda Dr, Vienna, VA 22181. SQUADRON NEWS Our squadrons continue to lead the “news”, some featured in the SPRING issue of WINGS OF GOLD (starting on page 48). It is most gratifying to see that a number of our squadrons continue to be very active, holding regular meetings, working membership issues and spreading the good word about Naval Aviation! Those from whom we have heard recently include (no particular order - and at the risk of leaving someone out): FLYING BEAVERS (Portland Oregon), French Crusaders (France), Grampaw Pettibone (Orange Co, CA), Hampton Roads, (VA), Whidbey Island (WA), Goshawks (Pensacola), Helldivers (Columbus, OH), Desert Storm (Palm Springs, CA), Roadrunners (Phoenix, AZ), Heart of Dixie (Birmingham, AL), Patuxent River (Patuxent River, MD), SANDGROPERS (Western Australia). Special congratulations to the SANDGROPERS on their 10th anniversary (May) who will celebrate with a formal dinner and a port call by USS BOXER to Perth. We are also very pleased to see that a couple of our squadrons, SAN DIEGO (CA) and MCCAMPBELL”S ACES (Greater Palm Beach, FL) are coming back to life. Congratulations to those who are working so hard to rejuvenate those units! Please, your inputs are ALWAYS welcome! If you have squadron news to pass along or if you would like point-of-contact information for any of these squadrons, please email our Executive Director, Zip Rausa at goldwings@cox.net or our secretary, Dutch Rauch at svwindmills@erols.com. A Bit of Humor, thanks to our Chairman Here are some actual maintenance complaints submitted by USAF pilots and the replies from the maintenance crews. Problem: "Left inside main tire almost needs replacement." Response: "Almost replaced left inside main tire." Problem: "Test flight OK, except autoland very rough." Response: "Autoland not installed on this aircraft." Problem: "Something loose in cockpit." Response: "Something tightened in cockpit. " Email provides a highly flexible and affordable means of communication for the Association. If you know of someone who is not on our email distribution list and who would like to receive the HOWGOZITs and BULLHORNs, please have them send their email address to Dutch at svwindmills@erols.com. Best regards to all ANAers!!
